Does your dog like to do really brave doggie things, like swimming in rivers and jumping over stiles?

Or is your dog is a ‘sniffer’, nose pressed to the same bit of grass or street corner, while you wait…forever?!
Dogs like different things! They are all individuals and have their own little ways.

We’ve found that some dogs like to go to new and exciting places, others are only happy on their usual and familiar walks. Some have to stay on their leads, others can have the freedom to run & play. Whichever is the case, Little Brown Doggie aims to provide a dog walker service that is second to none, really getting to know your dog, gaining his or her trust so that they are happy and calm on our walks, doing the things that they enjoy and walking in places that they love.

The Little Brown Doggie dogs are a mixed bunch, and we try to accommodate every doggie personality! We spend our days meeting and working with all kinds of dogs, and we bring this experience and knowledge to every dog that is in our care.

Some of our dogs are ‘solo’ walkers, and they stay ‘solo’ walkers for various different reasons.

On the other hand, our clients often tell us that their dog ‘hated’ other dogs before they used our dog walker service, and that they would never have believed there would be a time when their dog would be happily walking along with or playing with new friends!

 

What can you expect from a professional dog walker?

First of all, Little Brown Doggie offers a free consultation so that we can meet you and your dog. This is a friendly chat to talk about your requirements and to answer any questions that you may have.

We will go through a couple of forms with you to gain as much information about your dog as possible, and we will show you our insurance cover and CRB check documentation.

If our dog walking service is right for you, book your dog in for a trial!

Usually your dog’s first walk with Little Brown Doggie is a solo walk around their local area. This is so that he or she can get used to us, and we can assess your dog in an environment that is familiar to him or her.

Following this initial assessment, we will collect your dog in the Little Brown Doggie van and take him or her out for a walk in the South Durham area.

The Little Brown Doggie van is ventilated, and equipped with safe, secure cages. All dogs travel separately and have access to clean water and daylight. When collecting or dropping off dogs for group walks, we endeavour to keep each of the dogs travelling time down to 30mins or less. From leaving the van, our dog walks are generally 45 minutes or longer.

We walk in many different areas of County Durham, usually on local bridleways and farm tracks.

We are always exploring and adding to our list of safe walks. We will occasionally walk around your dog’s local area, our aim being to mix up fun, learning, socialization and relaxed lead walking in a safe environment.

We also train using positive reinforcement methods, and reward with doggie treats when suitable!
Once we have an established a bond with your dog and are confident of its recall, Little Brown Doggie are happy to exercise your dog off the lead where it is safe to do so, and where we have your written consent.
We have a great deal of experience with dogs, and we use our own discretion to assess whether free play is suitable for your dog whilst it is in our care.

The safety and welfare of your dog is our priority. We use our own extending leads or longlines for dogs who are ‘lead only’ walkers, so they still get to play and have fun where safe to do so.

We pick up all poo’s on our dog walks, disposing of them in the safe and correct manner! All of our bags are biodegradable.

Little Brown Doggie walk in all weather conditions, so a doggie coat is advisable for winter! We use Vet Bed in our cages to to keep wet dogs warm and draw as much moisture off as possible off the dogs’ paws and bellies, and we use our own towels to dry down wet & muddy dogs before returning them home.

On hot summer days we stay off tarmac paths that can burn paws, and will always try to walk in the shade. In warmer weather conditions we also carry clean drinking water on walks with us and clean drinking water is always available in the van.

We regularly update our  Little Brown Doggie Facebook page and Instagram account, and text our clients for their peace of mind. We respect clients who would prefer us not to post or use pictures of their pets for any reason.

If you would like to use our Little Brown Doggie dog walking service, as a minimum we require that all dogs are kept up to date with flea & worming treatments. Please note that as of 6th April 2016, all dogs must be micro chipped by law.
